Welcome to Veldt, a delightful new addition to Cape Town's vibrant dining scene, where the essence of South African cuisine comes alive through the exhilarating experience of braai (barbecue) cooking. Nestled at 35 Main Rd, Scott Estate, Veldt invites you to indulge in a culinary journey that showcases authentic, wood-fired flavors, all served in a cozy yet stylish setting.
From the moment you step inside, the warmth of the crackling fire envelops you, allowing you to savor the unmistakable aroma of grilled meats—a true hallmark of the South African dining experience. While some diners may note that the scent clings a bit longer than expected, I assure you, the flavor journey is well worth it. The tantalizing menu features dishes that hero the rich, traditional flavors synonymous with braai culture, complemented by unique twists that elevate each bite.
Start your meal with the tasty Braai Bites: Handmade white sourdough served with a smoked, whipped butter for a delightful appetizer at just ZAR 50. Or, experience a classic boerewors roll, bursting with savory flavors, crispy onions, and a smoky tomato relish that promises to ignite your taste buds—an absolute steal at ZAR 105. The culinary mastery truly shines with their signature Ruben Brisket, featuring house-smoked brisket paired with Veldt's own applewood cheddar and fresh toppings, a hearty sandwich that comes with the ever-popular chips. Each plate is crafted with care, ensuring both quality and value resonate throughout your meal.
Veldt doesn’t just cater to adults; their kid-friendly offerings, like the boerewors roll and kid's beef burger, ensure that even the little ones leave satisfied. Indulge in their sweet offerings too, like pumpkin fritters and the delightful malva pudding, making your visit a complete dining experience.
The atmosphere at Veldt is equally noteworthy; the establishment is infused with a sense of community. Many patrons rave about the friendly service and the welcoming nature of the staff. Reviews speak of the restaurant as a place where both locals and tourists can gather to enjoy hearty portions and authentic flavors at reasonable prices. The slight critiques about the attentiveness of service and the slightly rustic décor add to its charm rather than detract from it, making it a Gem nestled in the heart of Scott Estate.
In conclusion, Veldt is not just a restaurant—it's an experience. It captures the heart and soul of South African cuisine while creating an environment brimming with warmth, flavorful dishes, and community spirit. This is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to immerse themselves in traditional flavors, and I highly recommend trying the platter for two—unless you can take on the challenge solo! Embrace the experience and prepare to relish each moment at Veldt.

A lovely new addition to the local food scene! This recently established South African cuisine restaurant offers truly delicious dishes with the rich, authentic taste of wood-fired cooking. The traditional flavors shine through, especially on the leather touch à la carte menu — very original and enjoyable. The staff are kind and welcoming, though service could improve with a bit more attentiveness and speed. The tables are relatively small. A little tools shop is included. One thing to note: the wood fire aroma is strong — it adds charm to the experience, but it does cling to your clothes and hair. Still, the food makes it all worthwhile. A flavorful, true SA dining experience!

Positives: authentic braai flavours and experience (shisanyama for white people, basically), very sincere and friendly service and owner, excellent potions and value for money. Negatives: leans a bit too heavily into the sauces and bastings to carry the dishes, meaning the cooking of the meat is actually so-so but covered up nicely with the sauces/bastings, bit of a braai/wood/ash smell throughout the restaurant, location feels a bit dodgy at night. All in all a very different and authentic SA experience, well suited to tourists and visitors. Food 3*, balance of the decor & experience 4*

Fabulous last dinner in South Africa before our trip home. Our family of six shared the meat platter for two plus a stew and about five sides and it was more than enough! The flavors were delicious! The atmosphere cozy. Would definitely recommend!

What an amazing dining experience. From the cocktails to the desserts. We celebrated a special birthday, and Veldt definitely came to the party to make it a memorable night out. It is very hard to pick a favourite dish, the sharing platter allowed us to sample a couple of meats, but the starter brisket options are serious contenders. The cherry on top was our waiter, Norman, who made the evening extra special from the time we sat down. He made insightful recommendations from the wine list to each course. This restaurant is definitely worth visiting.
